International Energy & Sustainability Expert at Aus Conference

22 Jul 2009

SPECIAL EVENT NOTIFICATION: International Energy & Sustainability Expert Gustav Grob to Speak at Australian Conference

IDC Technologies Automation & Communication Technologies IN POWER Conference

September 1st to 3rd - Novotel Darling Harbour, Sydney AUSTRALIA

IDC Technologies presents a rare opportunity to see internationally renowned energy and sustainability expert Gustav R. Grob and Australian guru Andrew C. West discuss new and emerging technologies in the power industry relating to IT, Automation and Communications through case studies and practical discussions. This is a rare opportunity to connect with internationally renowned experts at a fraction of the cost of competitor conferences.

Gustav Grob is often referred to as the father of the ISO standard for energy systems analyses.  As co-initiator of ISO/TC203 for technical energy systems and as chairman of the working group on energy systems analyses, he enabled the energy planners to analyse and compare energy systems in terms of efficiency, side effects, by-products, coefficient of power (COP) and environmental life cycle compatibility.  He created the term CLEAN ENERGY in 1991, initiated the "Global Energy Charter for Sustainable Development" and is a pioneer of the holistic approach for the judgement on systems sustainability.  His publications include "The Blueprint for the Clean, Renewable Energy Age", "The Code of Ethics" and "Naturally Fit and Healthy".  He was speaker at international energy and environment conferences on four continents, at United Nations congresses and at European Union and ASEAN events.

Gustav is an Electromechanical and ETH-BWI Industrial Engineer with post degrees in Physical Distribution and Management; military degree at Swiss Air Force RADAR.  He is Fellow of the Energy Institute, London (former F.IP - Institute of Petroleum) and Dean em, REDWOOD International Petroleum School.

Andrew West has actively participated in SCADA protocol standardization activities since 1996. He is co-author of two Australian SCADA Standards and two IEEE standards for substation communications protocols and equipment. He is currently a member of two Standards Australia working groups and three IEC working groups on Power System Control and Communication and Wind Farm Control Systems. Andrew  is also Chair of the DNP Users Group Technical Committee and Spokesperson for the IEC TC57 WG03 which is responsible for IEC 60870.

Andrew began his professional career with the former Queensland Electricity Commission as a software engineer working on SCADA master stations and on substation automation equipment. He was firmware architect for Leeds & Northrup's RTU products; a firmware design engineer with SCADA communication protocol stack vendor Triangle MicroWorks, and is now a SCADA Design Consultant with Invensys Process Systems.

The use of IT, automation systems and communication technologies play a huge role in bringing about standardisation, increased revenues and a reduction in generation, transmission and distribution losses for the power industry. This IDC Technologies conference will cover the use of IT, automation, control and communication technologies in the power industry from the core perspectives of generation, transmission to distribution. Your business is probably facing one of the most turbulent periods in its history with enormous uncertainty evident in the future. To succeed in this environment, it is vital to reduce costs and raise the bar on productivity and efficiency. Thus, it is vital that electricity which powers our business assets is delivered reliably at an affordable cost.

Registrations received before 5pm Monday 10th August will receive a FREE seat at one of the pre-conference workshops delivered by Gustav R. Grob or Andrew C. West.

IDC Technologies Conferences offer speakers and delegates an interactive learning experience in addition to valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals.  The conference is emphatically not aimed at allowing vendors to "sell" their products but rather on generic technology and solutions.
