More than 50 per cent of ProPrint readers surveyed concluded that Australia Post's recent price hike will have serious ramifications on the local publishing industry. In an article published on the ProPrint website in answer to a July poll, ‘Do you agree with claims the Australia Post price hike could "trigger the demise of print?" 26 per cent of readers said ‘Yes. The timing of the price hike - ahead of schedule and during an economic crisis - will push many companies to the wall'. A further 25 per cent of readers also said yes, citing the claim that ‘increasing costs of printing and mailing will force many publishers and advertisers online'. 22 per cent of respondents said ‘the printing industry will take a hit but is strong enough to withstand a simple price hike', whilst another 17 per cent said the controversy was "just sabre-rattling from the publishing industry". The remaining ten per cent said it was too early to see what effect the price hike will have. OPINION/FEEDBACK TO THE EDITOR
