Avalon Media, publishers of LOTL(est. 1989), the longest running gay and lesbian magazine in the Southern Hemisphere has announced the launch of BOUND magazine, the world's first international magazine for lesbians and women with a connection to the gay and lesbian community. The premium publication will be an innovative lifestyle monthly with content drawn from around the globe. With the tag line "Different culture, same lifestyle", BOUND will target the discerning female reader who has broad horizons regarding lifestyle, travel, culture and sexuality. Inspired by the success of Sex and the City and The L Word, BOUND acknowledges and aims to please the growing sophistication of media-savvy women.

BOUND will offer in-depth features, celebrity interviews, travel editorial, fashion spreads and previews of the latest lifestyle essentials. The publication, available on newsstands and through subscription, has a unique pool of contributors from around the world including Europe, North America, South Africa, the Indian subcontinent, South East Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

"I believe BOUND is a first in the world of magazine publishing," says Merryn Johns, who has been the editor of LOTL for the past ten years and will head up BOUND. "I do not know of another high quality, glossy lesbian magazine in this format with a commitment to a mix of non-domestic content, and aimed at lesbian readers from all around the world." Johns is based in New York City, and her creative team is in Sydney Australia. "It's exciting for BOUND to be emerging from New York, which is considered the publishing capital of the world, and from Sydney, which is certainly one of the gay capitals of the world. We are a truly international publication."

"Our approach to content is driven by the desire to feature different cultures living the same lifestyle," says Managing Director and Publisher, Silke Bader.

"There is a place on the newsstand for a publication that caters to an affluent, sophisticated lesbian reader with an interest in diverse cultures."

"Avalon Media is uniquely positioned to launch BOUND. Through its Australian magazine, LOTL, we have readers in every state and territory of Australia, as well as in 116 countries and territories overseas," says Bader. "It is wonderful to know that women can access our websites and publications from anywhere in the world. We have readers in Iraq, Sudan, and Nicaragua as well as Hobart, Dubbo and Townsville. We are proud to now provide them with BOUND, a publication with higher quality, relevant content and a way for women and lesbians to connect to a global community."

"Gay people constitute a vibrant, high-income, talented and interesting sector of the population. Our advertisers recognise that the gay community is of commercial interest and are leaders in terms of new product adoption," says Amanda Keeling, LOTL's Business Development Manager. "Avalon Media's flagship publication, LOTL, has a readership worth an estimated AU$3.3 billion, we expect BOUND to exceed that substantially."

Avalon Media has secured national and international distribution of BOUND to newsstands and bookstores. The launch issue will be December 2009.
