Publishers Australia and Australia Post Forge New Relationship

After a prolonged battle over recent Print Post price increases Publishers Australia and Australia Post have identified opportunities to collaborate to form a positive and strategic alliance moving forward.

The alliance will benefit Publishers Australia members, the industry body as a whole and, in turn, open up new business opportunities for Australia Post amongst specialist magazine publishers.

Publishers Australia Chair, Geoff Hird explained, "With ROI becoming a defining factor or most marketers today, they are turning more and more to niche, focused magazines. Covering custom, specialist consumer and B2B, our membership has been much misunderstood in the past my marketers and media buyers. We see this alliance as a great opportunity to change perceptions and raise awareness of the true value our members can bring to the marketing table."

Initiatives now being established are:

  • Australia Post executives will join a newly formed Coalition of Industry Partners being co-ordinated by Publishers Australia, to include the Printing Industries of Australia and support of the Media Federation of Australia and the Australian Marketing Institute. The inaugural meeting will take place in early November.
  • Australia Post executived have been invited to join Publishers Australia's Subscription Leadership Group and Custom Leadership Group.

  • Publishers Australia have invited Australia Post executives to speak at selected State Luncheon Meetings.

  • Australia Post is a premium sponsor at Publishers Australia's Excellence Awards - Bell 09 to be held in Sydney in November.

Hird went on to say that  collaborative opportunities are in the pipeline and will embrace:

  • Cross membership promotions
  • Australia Post will be invited to participate in two events focused on Custom Publishing with the Publishers Australia Thought Leadership Breakfast Series in the form of CEO Forums.
  • An inaugural industry event planned for August 2010 will offer premium partner sponsorship opportunities to organisations including Australia Post and be branded and marketed as Publishers Australia  Publishing Summit.

 Australia Post and Publishers Australia have committed to an improved price review communication program that will provide the industry body more time to discuss and put forwarded cases with regard to any proposed Print Post price increases in the future.
