Roy Morgan Readership Figures Reflect Decline in Women’s Titles

The latest Roy Morgan readership results were released last week and show that women’s titles continue to decline in the current market.

With total magazine readership down by 5.1 per cent in the year to September compared with the previous year Pacific Magazines have been hit hard, as reported in AdNews, with Who dropping 22.7 per cent from 801,000 to 619,000, New Idea down 17.7 per cent from 1.97 million to 1.62 million and Marie Claire down 5.5 per cent from 531,000 to 502,000.

ACP Magazines Womans Day is down 12.8 per cent from 2,348 to 2,047, NW declined 31.9 per cent from 501,000 to 341,000 and Cleo also down 26.7 per cent from 515,000 to 377,000.

Health and cooking magazines bucked the downward trend with Knockout Media’s Recipes+ increasing 29.5 per cent from 264,000 to 342,000 and News Magazines Delicious growing 5.6 per cent from 498,000 to 526,000.

Men’s titles have also fared badly with titles such as FHM down 36.5 per cent, Inside Sport down 34.7 per cent, Men’s Style Australia down 26.9 per cent with other popular titles such as Ralph down 25.7 per cent and Alpha down 23.2 per cent.

The only publications to come out of this category on a positive note was Pacific Magazine’s Men’s Health gaining 5.7 per cent year-on-year readership from 33,000 to 350,000 and Women’s Health gaining 28.8 per cent year-on-year from 330,000 to 425,000.
